Key Responsibilities/ Technical/functional Skills:

• Performs chemical experiments accurately; synthesizes, purifies, acquires and analyzes data efficiently and independently following best lab practices and HSE protocols.

• Develops and analyzes the feasibility of synthetic routes, based on published or in-house precedent, to targeted compounds in collaboration with other scientists.

• Well versed with modern synthetic chemistry methodologies, reaction mechanisms and other enabling technologies, and proactively shares this knowledge to address current synthetic challenges within the project team.

• Helps the team in the development of new routes that: increase the efficiency of synthesis, address scale up considerations, or open up new areas of a core structure to modification.

• Basic understanding of fundamentals of medicinal chemistry, SAR analysis and proposal of new analogs based on hypothesis

• Effective engagement with other functions such as CADD, biology and PCO etc. to enhance design ideas

• Laboratory skills should be honed to a level that routinely allows high productivity.

• Operates and maintains equipment and instruments with a high degree of technical proficiency.

• Documents results of experiments in their ELN in compliance with standard operating procedures. Experimental details should be captured in a fashion sufficient to facilitate reproducibility.

• Proficiently utilizes basic departmental software such as SciFinder, Reaxys etc. and data shared within the group

• Frequently updates supervisor with detailed communication of plans and results and subsequent follow-up.

• Presents experimental results and updates in chemistry team meetings including meetings with BMS, as situation merits.

• Shows leadership by example with respect to safety by ensuring that policies are adhered to, and that adequate risk assessment is conducted on planned reactions.

• Assumes key project responsibilities such as collation and preparation of patent application experimental.

• Mentor the work of less experienced chemists.   

• Demonstrate leadership in safety, departmental infrastructure and demonstrates lab/department citizenship.

Educational Qualification: Ph. D in Organic Chemistry

 

Technical/functional Skills: (Maximum 4-6 Points)

  • The candidate must possess a strong background in the theory and practice of classical and modern synthetic organic chemistry with a thorough understanding of modern synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms
  • The candidate is expected to possess excellent problem-solving skills and should have a demonstrated ability to use critical analysis to develop creative and fundamentally sound solutions
  • Candidate must have expertise in the purification and characterization of organic compounds using chromatography and spectroscopic techniques including NMR, MS and IR spectroscopy
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment are required; In supervisory and/or project leader roles
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to provide direction, feedback, and assistance to others in an effective manner.
