Job Purpose (1-2 Lines):
The Veterinary Technician – BBRC Veterinary Sciences will provide technical support for veterinary care and promotes a collaborative team culture and demonstrate the BMS/BBRC values at all times. The individual will be responsible for pathogen testing, clinical analysis and provide genotype support to Veterinary Science team.

 

Key Responsibilities: (Maximum 5-8 Points)
•    Performing PCR and Gel electrophoresis to support Genotyping
•    Screening of samples for rodent pathogens by ELISA/PCR
•    Perform veterinary technician roles and clinical observations of the colony
•    Coordinate for the microbial analysis of animal rooms 
•    Documentation related to husbandry practices and support activities
•    Work closely with Veterinarians and reporting manager in Veterinary Science 
•    Authors and assists in the development of SOPs/Guidelines
•    Record keeping from the working area and the facility 
•    Ordering and monitoring of consumables and supplies
•    Provide additional technical support as needed
•    Able to support the periodic weekend duties and cross functional stakeholders
•    Support team for maintaining the animal care program with high standards 

 

Educational Qualification: Bachelor of Science or related field of study

 

Technical/functional Skills: (Maximum 4-6 Points)    
•    Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the different diagnostic techniques
•    Working experience with laboratory animals such as rodents and rabbits
•    Good understanding about the research animal facility operations is desirable
•    Detail oriented organizational and interpersonal skills
•    Ability to work independently and effectively with a team
•    Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
•    Computer skills - Microsoft Office suite (word processing, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Outlook), e-Learning software, Learning Management Systems

 

Experience: 
•    0-2 years of experience working in Vivarium / clinical diagnosis laboratory
•    Previous experience in ELISA and PCR analysis
•    Handling experience of animals and related procedure is preferable
