Job Purpose
Responsible for achievement of business objectives by ensuring timely submission of cost sheets to project management, supply of requisite input materials i.e. raw materials, consumables, reagents, animals, stationeries etc.
The individual in this role has the responsibility for leading the R&D sourcing / operations process from strategy development and supplier selection through contract negotiation and ongoing relationship management with other functions. The person in the position works closely with key stakeholders on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- The individual will develop and maintain market knowledge in one or more spend areas; identify and implement best business practices that deliver value.
- Network internally with US & Chinese partners, lead local and global projects through the strategic sourcing process, which results in negotiations and contracting with selected suppliers. (Category - Animals, Chemistry, Biology, General Materials & Services)
- Procurement Operations - Achieve excellence in delivery of materials / animals / services to all projects to meet customer expectations (PR-PO, QUOTIF, etc.)
- The person in this role will identify, negotiate with, and manage suppliers who provide goods and services to meet Syngene CRO/R&D requirements whilst following Preferred Supplier Strategies. These activities could include development of Requests for Information, Requests for Proposals as well as negotiation and contract execution.
- An additional goal of the position is to provide commercial experience and assist in managing risks with external R&D vendors.
- Developing strategic sourcing initiatives, including spend analysis, category management, supply-demand market intelligence, negotiations, benchmarking, clean-sheet costing, and ensuring process compliance and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Supplier optimization, aligning with strategic goals, supplier evaluation, development and executing strategic supplier relationship management with key suppliers. Identifying supply risks and quantifying risk exposure and executing risk mitigation actions. The individual will be involved in relationship management with critical suppliers to assure the value targeted during negotiations is realized for the business.
- Cost optimization on developing alternate and using effective negotiation on category wise and freezing contracts for pricing, discount, and rebate structure.
- MIS Reporting - prepare, share findings and recommendations with management, clients, highlighting areas for improvement, cost savings, and risk mitigation.
- Stakeholder Management – partners with stakeholders to create and launch tactical implementation plans. Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal client and colleagues at all levels. Manage multiple initiatives and/or projects/programs. Serve as a member as cross-functional teams, lead meetings as appropriate.
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree / BSc with relevant experience (preferably with Chemistry as one of the subjects)
- PG Diploma in MM or MBA is an added advantage.
Technical/functional Skills:
- Define categories and strategies for various categories
- Strategic & tactical sourcing
- Logistics / SEZ / EOU
- Vendor evaluation and selection criteria, such as capacity, capabilities, and compliance.

Experience:
- Should have experience in strategic sourcing with a minimum of 6-9 years in pharmaceuticals.
- Must have experience in managing cross-functional teams, data mining, market analysis, gathering intelligence, and interpreting for decision-making.
- MIS reporting - conversant in generating SAP reports, collating data for analysis.
- Vendor development, negotiation, and annual rate contract.
- Identification of supply risks, mitigation plan (proactively execution of the plan)
- Collaboration, cost optimization, and value creation.
- Proven interpersonal skills and effective collaboration with global / internal / external teams.
- Proven skills in negotiation and understanding of commercial law.
- Market intelligence, benchmarking knowledge, and awareness of best practices.
