Core Purpose of the Role: Support the organisation’s legal and regulatory integrity by operationalising compliance, privacy and ethics frameworks.

 

Role Accountabilities:

  • Compliance Framework Implementation & Monitoring:
  • Support implementation and day-to-day operation of Syngene’s global legal and regulatory compliance framework. Ensure full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Track applicability of key laws, stay continuously updated on regulatory developments and proactively assess their impact on the organisation, co-ordinate with different stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Manage the digital compliance tool to ensure accurate compliance filings and submissions and reduce manual dependency and compliance risk. Maintain and monitor compliance dashboards, trackers, reports, SOPs, internal policies and MIS for real-time monitoring.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments, periodic reviews, monitoring, and audits of Syngene’s global operations; identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Design and deliver compliance training programs for employees, including users, leadership teams, and new joiners and foster a strong culture of compliance through awareness and governance discipline.
  • Ensure accuracy of compliance submissions by respective stakeholders.
  • Support internal audits, inspections and regulatory inquiries from a legal standpoint.
  • Data Privacy & Protection Compliance
  • Support implementation of data protection laws applicable to the organisation (e.g., DPDP Act, GDPR, other global privacy regimes where relevant).
  • Assist with privacy notices and consent frameworks, Data processing agreements (DPAs) and privacy clauses in commercial contracts, vendor and thirdparty privacy due diligence
  • Maintain records of processing activities, data flow maps, and privacy documentation
  • Assist in data breach assessment, incident response coordination, and documentation
  • Third Party & Contractual Risk Support
  • Review and support negotiation of compliancerelated contractual clauses, including data protection, confidentiality, antibribery and sanctions, ethics and audit rights
  • Support thirdparty onboarding from a compliance and privacy perspective
  • Assist in monitoring ongoing compliance obligations of vendors, service providers, and partners
  • Stakeholder engagement & Advisory Support
  • Act as a first legal point of contact for routine compliance and privacy queries from business teams
  • Deliver training sessions on legal and compliance-related topics
  • Policy & Process Management
  • Draft, review and update internal policies to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, risks appetite and business objectives.
  • Present policy and compliance updates to senior management.

Specific requirements for this role

 

  1. Education: LLB
  2. Experience: Experienced in PQE in in-house legal teams or law firms with exposure to compliance, regulatory, privacy, corporate advisory work.
  3. Skills and Capabilities:
  • Working knowledge of corporate and regulatory compliance, data protection and privacy concepts, ethics and whistleblowing frameworks.
  • Ability to interpret statutes, policies and contractual clauses
  • Strong documentation and tracking discipline
  • Ability to constructively engage with non-legal teams
  • Clear written and verbal communication
