Job Purpose: To establish and operate 'Centre of Excellence- EHSS' at Syngene.

 

  1. Develop leadership by empowering all within the organization to lead on EHSS and integrate EHSS aspects into all facets of business and operation. Manage the data/information to monitor and assess the EHSS management systems, link EHSS goals to other organization objectives, and promote off-job safety and environment initiatives as part of Syngene corporate citizenship.

 

  1. Assure process consistency across locations, better address regulatory requirements, or streamline continuous improvement initiatives. Facilitates the collection of EHSS standards and practices throughout an organization and also serves as a community of practice for a given topic area, encouraging sharing and knowledge flow throughout the company

 

  1. Help reduce EHSS risk by implementing the EHSS risk assessment matrix, continuously monitoring the status of acceptable risk, and verifying that release decisions are based on quantifiable business risk.
  2. Optimize operational EHSS  efficiency across plants/projects by implementing consistent, repeatable processes and enabling the sharing of knowledge and best practices across geographically distributed teams.
  3. Drive best practices in processes collected from across the organization and further standardized, improved, and re-distributed to the entire organization, leading to reduced  EHSS risk at operation by improving all applications and services with consistency, quality, and reliability.
  4. To provide leadership and expertise in all aspects of Environment, Occupational Health, Hygiene, Safety & Sustainability, Loss Prevention, and Emergency Management across all  Syngene locations
  5. To manage activities in compliance with Syngene EHSS Policies, Guidelines, and Standards and  EHSS statutory requirements of the State & Central government.
  6. Support Head EHSS Syngene in strategic/tactical and operational management in the areas of Process safety management, Emergency, Biosafety management, Learning & Development.

 

 

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Will be lead-COE EHSS for all sites of Syngene
  2. Preparing the EHSS dashboard covering various parameters of EHSS performance (both lead and Lag) on monthly/quarterly and annual basis at par with global best practices
  3. Responsible for preparing the internal audit scope and developing the annual planner across Syngene (Pre-audit preparations, conducting audits, and audit reports). Track and follow-up on EHSS Audit observations (internal/external) actions items completed and complied with the policy. Monitor the effectiveness of the CAPA implementation.
  4. Develop systems and processes to learn from internal and external audits to upgrade EHSS standards and processes.
  5.  Develop capabilities within the EHSS function in the area of subject matter experts and in the line function for managing /controlling the risk within an acceptable range.
  6. Coach and mentor the staff across the organization to align with the organizational aspiration of EHSS Goal Zero on
  7. Identify and define a plan for areas of improvement in process safety, Biosafety, Construction safety, distribution safety, safe systems of works, and emergency management based on 1-3-5 business strategy and annual operating plan.
  8. Responsible for tracking and follow-up of action items/completion to ensure timely solutions for action items from the Executive safety committee, OSLT, MREM, Kavach work stream, and department meetings.
  9. Organize campaigns, competitions, contests, and other activities as employee engagement in establishing and maintaining safe work conditions and procedures.
  10. Harmonize emergency mock drill learning across the organization, define and implement improvement plans, and prepare management reports on initiatives and improvements, both strategic and tactical.
  11. Define and implement role-based EHSS training across the organization and institute a governance system to monitor the effectiveness of training. Prioritize to develop of e-learning modules for specific topics touching many OU/EF on the risks being managed.
  12. Coordinate with the learning management system team within the HR function, prepare a quarterly training calendar for all OUs, and share it with all concerned team members.
  13. Overall adherence to EHSS best  practices and procedures of oneself and the teams aligned
  14. Contributing to the development of procedures, practices, and systems that ensure safe operations and compliance with the company's integrity & quality standards
  15. Driving a corporate culture that always promotes environment, health, safety, and sustainability (EHSS) mindset and operational discipline at the workplace.
  16. Ensure all assigned mandatory training related to data integrity, health, and safety measures are completed on time by all members of the team, including self.
  17. Compliance with Syngene's quality standards at all times.
  18. Hold self and teams accountable for the achievement of EHSS goals
  19. Champion effective Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) practices for the company and oversee compliance with those practices within all Syngene operations. Play active leadership in monitoring and verifying safety performance through Gemba walks and other safety-led activities.
  20. Put people at the heart of our success by providing clear, active leadership defined by the Syngene leadership framework, setting high standards of people management, career planning, and talent retention as a priority.
  21. It will support the Kavach program in achieving a visible safety culture (operational discipline and sustainable safety).
  22. Promote and champion key initiatives to improve EHSS performance within Syngene in support of the Syngene corporate targets.
  23. Provide reactive EHSS support to the Site/ all OU leadership, in particular providing/supporting incident management and incident investigation, Emergency Management, and Business continuity management.
  24. Establish and sustain good working relationships in the EHSS area with key internal and external stakeholders (e.g., local community, regulatory authorities, and Syngene corporate managers to ensure the site's license to operate is protected and that a climate is created to support the site strategy.
  25. Manage EHSS change plan and other continuous improvement activities to deliver EHSS projects effectively.

Critical experience

 

  1. Implementing EHSS management systems and processes, standards, and policies for multiple sites
  2. Process safety and administrative safety management in the Chemical/Pharmaceutical/Bio-Technology / Biologics manufacturing   industry for at least  20 years (development, implementation, and maintenance)
  3. Occupational Hygiene and Health Management in Pharmaceutical/Biopharmaceutical/Chemical industries ten years
  4. EMS Implementation experience for at least 15
  5. Emergency management System ( Operational/tactical/ Strategic)
  6. Knowledge of EHSS statutory requirements/regulations and practice
  7. Experience in implementing safety programs in chemical/Biologics manufacturing environments
  8. IT literate, with the ability to use the full Microsoft Office package
  9. Knowledge of current Health and Safety practice within the CRO/Biopharma sector
  10. Experience in Biotechnology, Pharma (R&D, API's and Formulations), Chemical & fertilizers, Paint & adhesives Industries,

Educational Qualification:

Graduate Engineer from a recognized University, preferably Chemical/Civil. M.Tech. Candidates are Preferred. Diploma in Industrial Safety from State Board, RLI, CLI

  • Well-versed with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and MS Projects
  • Good command of English, both oral and written, and customer service skills
  • Have knowledge of lifecycle management in pharmaceutical industries.
