The Role
The Director, Computational & Data Sciences (CDS), will lead one or more strategic capability areas within CDS and play a key leadership role in advancing Syngene's vision of becoming a data-driven, AI-enabled scientific organisation. The role is responsible for building scientific and digital capabilities that accelerate drug discovery and development, enhance client value, and drive operational excellence across the R&D value chain. The incumbent will be responsible for a multidisciplinary team spanning computational sciences, research informatics and data sciences while partnering closely with Discovery, Development, Manufacturing, IT and Commercial functions. The role will have direct client engagement that focuses on scientific rigor and agility in achieving client aims through leveraging computational and data sciences. Finally, the role will promote and develop within all Computational and Data Sciences colleagues best practices with respect to Safety, Quality, Integrity, and Compliance (SQIC).
Key Result Areas
- Partner with the Head CDS to define and execute the long-term strategy for Computational & Data Sciences.
- Translate business objectives into scalable scientific, digital and AI initiatives.
- Identify emerging technologies, scientific trends and market opportunities relevant to Syngene and its clients.
- Drive adoption of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and computational approaches across research and development functions.
- Lead delivery of high-impact computational and data science programs across discovery, development and manufacturing.
- Provide scientific oversight for projects involving bioinformatics, cheminformatics, machine learning, AI and scientific computing.
- Ensure methodological rigor, reproducibility and scientific excellence across all deliverables.
- Act as a scientific and technical leader for strategic client engagements.
- Support business development activities, proposals, capability presentations and solution design.
- Build differentiated service offerings that leverage data science, AI and computational expertise.
- Develop trusted relationships with scientific leaders within client organisations.
- Contribute to revenue growth, margin expansion and client retention objectives.
- Build, mentor and retain high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
- Represent CDS in leadership reviews, strategic planning sessions and client interactions.
- Serve as an ambassador for data-driven decision making across the enterprise.
- Uphold Syngene's values of Safety, Quality, Integrity and Compliance.
- Ensure adherence to data governance, security, privacy and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a strong culture of responsible AI and ethical use of data.
- Support EHSS initiatives and organisational compliance programmes.
Education
- Ph.D. / Post Doc in a related field (biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, data sciences)
Industry Experience
- 15 years of relevant experience in either pharma or CRO/CDMO organizations.
- Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary scientific and technical teams.
- Track record of delivering complex scientific, AI programs.
- Experience managing global stakeholders and client-facing engagements.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical R&D and scientific workflows
